Vintage Race Car transporters

Post by MattH »

Does anyone have pics of the trucks that used to haul the Trans-Am Challengers to the races in 1970? Ive seen pics of the drag racer haulers but not the Trans-Am cars. The Shelby one below is what I'm thinking of.

Seeing the BMC Mini hauler converted from a bus at Stony has prompted this odd request.

This one has a familiar look to it, is that Pete stood in front?
I see some stripy trousers should be de-rigeur for the Thunder Road uniform. :rr: 8-)

Matt,
Only pics I can find show them using ordinary panel trucks, e.g.

Drag Racing always had better haulers, and Dick Landy had some of the best:

And ramp trucks are always useful after a mishap:

I reckon the trans am teams would have had bigger rigs/transporters than the Dragrace guys, bigger budgets etc,
Good thread though :thumbright:

Thanks for the pics!
I saw the Shelby one at Bicester last year in the auction.
Something Mopar origin like that in sublime would be lovely.
Panel van artic is a bit big.
The Le Mans Italian trucks are beuatiful, pure Italian Job. 2018 Le Mans had a similar transporter but filled with Bizzarinis.

Matt,
Think I've found something that fits your brief:
