Hi All
First oil change in my ownership, what do you guys recommend, used the Halfords classic in the past for my classics, is there something better? Been looking at the Castrol XL 20W-50. The engine is not standard but no paperwork to indicate what mods have taken place. It does have Edlebrock heads, high rise manifold,Holly double Pumper, headman headers, Milodon sump, the cam is a lumpy one but no spec. Should I be using a more modern oil due to the mods or stay with the Classic oils ?
Thanks
Rog

ah the perennial debate
high zinc content oil I.e the highest PPM of ZDDP you can find. or use a ZDDP additive. too much is not great but I can't find a definition of too much.
I use Dynolite from Moss Europe nobody else I know does its blended for a company just down the road from where I live
I have used Valvoline millers and Morris's
some swear by nice green Castrol GTX
I saw some very compelling evidence that Royal purple was exceedingly good but its also expensive
find a nice one and stick to it
you need to decide on viscosity 20W50 will be fine but if you were chasing every last BHP less viscosity would help and your oil pressure gauge is handy in deciding.

Valvoline 20W 50 in both of mine. Does the job.
Re: 68 Charger 440 which Engine Oil
Been using Lucas 20/50 for the last few years, as Dave says a high ZDDP content is important for our old engines. Interestingly the new hydraulic lifters I have recently bought came with the instructions not to use heavier oil then 10/30 so a change of brand for me.
