What is this ?
Old 440 has a couple of bolts. This one has what looks to be a couple of snipped off tubes rather than bolts ??

Also, don't be surprised if the front of that oil pan hits the crimped lip of the K frame, you often need to grind a bit off for some clearance clarance...

It probably won't leak as no doubt it was seized shut when the rest of it broke off. As standard it would have a pipe plug in there, 3/8"NPT if memory serves. Getting back to that oil pan, it looks considerably deeper than stock, if your car sits low that might not end well...

I pop back out later and have a measure. It does look kinda aggressive - and (much to Petes disgust) I dont need it for racin' so if the stock has to go on there I'm not bothered. Gived me something else to paint silver and offend the purists

I reckon that will hang about 2" lower than the K frame. Swapping on the stock pan might not be as straightforward as you'd think. The hot tip with big blocks is to tap out the oil pick up boss to 1/2" NPT from the stock 3/8", I bet Bob's had at it...

Never simple eh ? Assume the bore of pickup not an issue but it may need a bit of shortening...

OK - Can confirm that the sump is indeed a full 2" over stock (5" stock, 7" this one). So it'll hang low. Maybe even lower than headers.
Now, on the pickup I cant of course tell whether its been tapped out to 1/2" - but it seems a safe assumption that it will be a long pickup either way.
So options on the table are -
- Pop it in as is (this was planA) and assess the 2" problem then.
- Pop the sump off and have a look at the pickup which will either be short/long (likely long) AND either 3/8 or 1/2".
- If short, no problem, change sump
- If long 3/8, no problem. Take the pickup AND the sump from old engine.
- If long 1/2 then assess if current can be modified/bent or whether different pickup needs to be sourced.
Grrr.

Well the oil pan appears to be a Moroso 20760, so the pick up will be either 24150 or 24800. So, if it's 1/2", cut off the adaptor on the end and weld that to your stock pick up and jobs a mediocre 'un....

Dry run install, yes. Hangs 1.5-2” below k frame.

Trying to remove now; will then remove regular and get the long machined to be the same length. ( assuming the short one isnt by some miracle also half inch)

Well I cant shift it. There is a limit to what can be done on a hoist I think - it needs putting on a stand and tipping upside down...

Yes the pickup will be in there tight. On a more positive note, there isn't usually a great deal of "meat" left around the pickup boss when it's tapped out so you just might be be lucky....
