Removing EGR & A/C -73 Charger 318

Hi all!

Looking for some advice on my EGR amplifier, which looks like it’s been partially blocked off already - see pics. I have some chrome rocker covers to go on the car and they obviously don’t have the fitting for the EGR. Can I bypass or remove this?

I’d also like to remove the remainder of my defunct air con system (none of the heater system in my car works! ). The rad has gone already, so now want to remove the pump and pipework to clear up the engine bay. What size belt do I need to replace the air con one with? Any other advice if anyone else has done this gratefully received

As long as you blank the vacuum ports on the manifold and carb that connects it there's not likely to be any issues. All that stuff was long gone on mine when I got it except for the egr valve in the manifold and that has now been replaced by a blanking plate.
Mine was also an AC car that had everything removed but I can't advise on a belt as it's had an engine swap in the past and my belts run for my set up.
You could adjust your alternator to a midpoint, then get a thick cord or cut an old drive belt and wrap that around the pulleys and measure what you have.

Non A/C cars use different pulleys to A/C cars. You need to use the correct pulleys so the crank, water pump and alternator all line up to use one belt. You can block off and remove the EGR as long as you still have a breather on the valve cover.

my set up works for me at the moment BUT it's not correct and was like it when I bought it...which is when I didn't know any better and is something I need to correct.

Looks like I’ll have to shop around for some parts before ditching the A/C then! These are the valve covers I have (see pic), with Edelbrock breather/oil filler one side and breather with pipe the other. I guess going with what Scotty Dave said about his, I should be ok with leaving the EGR valve in place & just blocking the hoses. It’s the amplifier that’s the fly in the ointment and I have no idea if it’s actually working anyway!
