fitting window help

I need to fit front and rear windows in my Dart.
I have new rubbers but i am frightened of breaking the glass, could anyone give me a few tips please.

I have a proper metal "rope" cord thing for getting screens in and out. You are welcome to borrow it.

i got a guy from my local screen fitting company to do my truck privately on a saturday only charged ?10,theres a lot less chance of someone who does it every day cracking a screen

My Dad and I did mine. It was a right pain took well over an hour and was hard work. How we did not break I will never know. It sits a little too low and the bottom trim will not clip into place, though it doesn't leak but I will have to get someone to refit it for me. The back screen is bonded so that was a piece of cake. I guess its much easier if you have the correct tools.

The real key is to get it out without breaking it, only to put it on a nice cold concrete floor whilst you clean the surfaces for it to shatter moments later

Thanks for suggestions and the offer of the rope Alistair.
My neighbour works for Auto windscreens but he's fairly young so i did'nt think he'd be savvy with the car but i might ask him rather than break it.

not wanting to be cheeky but can he get the stuff to bond the screens in? I tried Allwoods but they keep messing me about "we've got it in, oh no we haven't" and nowhere else stocks it.

I don't mind paying for the stuff, if someone will sell me a tube!

I got the local windscreen Co to take my front screen out and replace it, (Quite a complicated seal on the charger) without a doubt the safest way to do it, (quoted ?600 + for a new one !!) although I got the back screen out myself because as Mat said it is only bonded - to this end I manged to get some tubes of sealant from the the guy, so if you can't get some Alistair, let me know.

On the rear screen, fit the rubber to the glass and pull it in useing the rope, not a bad job really, just take it slowly. The front screen, fit the rubber to the car and then fit the screen into the rubber useing a plastic tool to lift the rubber up round the glass, you can use a large screwdriver if you go steady and are careful not to lever against the glass. I got to the last corner on my windscreen and cracked it, I got it out again without making it any worse so hopefully I'll make a better job of fitting the replacement....I'm told that you have a far better chance of not cracking a screen if you do it in warm weather, it might be an old wives tale but I think theres probably some truth in it.

had a buyer for the windows out of my nissan President yesterday, (?450 thankyou very much) so extra care was taken to remove them without breaking them, so i used welding rods to keep the rubber peeled back all the way along the top of the rear screen. worked a treat, required very little push to get it out after that. Glass is now in Holland!

i put my own rear window in my Charger with a roll of bitumen tape or whatever its called.

RAC auto windscreens did my front one (becuase it was insurance) but i had to get them to redo it because they didnt put any sealer in !
