i prefer to drill bigger and bigger until only the threads are left of the stud. you can then pick them out and run a tap down in it to clean them out. i do it this way and you'd know why if you've ever snapped an easy out off in a broken stud. they are very very hard and a nightmare to get out. even if you end up slightly off centre there's always the option to drill even bigger and helicoil it.

Feel for you - if you get really stuffed and it gets beyond everything I've got a Weiand Team G ally intake. You would need a dominator adaptor though as its a dominator stud pattern. Good luck - Mike

Nope. Titanium drill bit, lubricated, slow and steady, with a pilot. Also took two extractors with it and shorn every nut that was welded to it. It’s like trying to drill into Fort Knox. Something isn’t right with this, not sure what.

Manifold will have to come off so i can get it on a pillar drill, I think.

No, Dave. There is something holding it, though. Have a suspicion it may have been “treated” with something to hold it in, in the past.

PS another way

now you have a hole in it get a bit of steel rod that is just a bit bigger than the hole.
taper the end like you are making a crap screw driver or bradawl

put it in your hand drill
run the drill backwards at full speed
press the steel into the hole, light pressure
it will spin and get hotter and hotter
it will glow red....
it will slowly wear away the stud
it will eventually grab and nearly take yer hand off (dependent on how big your hand drill is)
do this a couple of times and the heat and shock sometimes loosens it

have had success with snapped off exhaust studs on VW heads doing that rusty steel into aluminium

you can try the same with it fitted in your windy gun or electric impact gun once you have smacked the rod into a scrap socket

is it a stainless stud? into aluminium

stainless in aluminum once the ally corrodes the stud glues itself in like you used the "We are going into space" version of Locktite threadlocker

the threads gall up and the corrosion dust just acts like a door wedge to any turning action

What comes out will only screw back in once all of the white ally corrosion is removed from the stainless stud, but by that point you have already learned a lesson and gone and got some plain steel studs.
some types of stainless and some types of aluminium alloy do not mix well in some applications

but you don't find out until its too late

i'd go ahead and get a helicoil kit on order ready for when it's finally mullered out. rally design do them at good prices, imperial and metric.
