NATS Dave Dan Frank

Post by Dave999 »

Usual panic to get packed and off at a reasonable time
cats, guinea pigs etc fed and instructions left about keys and where to find the food, for those who would pick up the responsibility while we were away.

Me and Daniel (son) in the car by 8:30 and off, only to have to go a feed more cats for someone else
Get petrol

Off
then drove past MOSS Europe and remembered i needed oil. 10 minute diversion back 20W50 acquired
Off
Incident free journey,
Stupid detour around MK due to A509 closure
Meet Frank at the garage just passed Olney and into the NATS by about 10:45
tents at top of pits...Mick Deakin camped up nearby ("camped-up" as in tents and that, not Jazz-hands, straw boater and sparkly pants..... although i did like the shade of his lipstick, must ask for next time)
signed on for RWYB
Red lit

great run
great run
No PB but back to where i was at 5 years ago, best 14.003 at 96.92 MPH
the runs involved actually passing some competitors, 73 road runner (gtx) a late 90s camaro and a certain 340 engined barracuda formula S :) shhhhh! ....
alright for just six cylinders

its nice to win occasionally

work done this year .
head gasket ( probably not necessary as it turns out)
HEI coil new plugs and a zener to stop me busting modules and my tach
vacuum advance hooked up to manifold vacuum on 1 cylinder (no plenum here) via a pulse smoother modeled on one used on a1980s alfasud with dellortos . works, £20 well spent.
Oh what a difference that makes, to take-off and fuel consumption... rice puddings with skins should hide :) .......
carbs tuned with multi gauge vacuum fandango, normally used on 4 cylinder bikes... well worth it as well
put my wide ratio trans back in, giving me a truck like 1st and 2nd and a horrible whine
clutch set up with bite point at half travel rather than inch off the floor.... took a while to get used to it but seems to result in smoother take off and a shorter period of clutch burning slip under power, but much less like an On Off switch, so i avoid the previous foot hover about the bite point.... must have something to do with Z bar angles and less spring fighting my poor left leg .

saturday, 2 runs, but then frank bust a UJ and tail housing Stu had trans issues and i thought anymore track abuse and I'd be pushing it..... these things come in 3s

Frank's prop shaft removed by Pete. i lay on the ground for a bit and provided the 3rd hand to lift the thing outta the way for easy bolt head access, poor old Daniel must have been getting a bit bored by this stage, watching old fellas rolling about on the ground saying Oh that's broken etc. :)

towed him back.
the usual saturday night dodgems skateboards beers and chat

hello to all we spoke to..

big thanks to Mick Deakin for the time he put in on Sunday to getting it on to trailer, towing it out and finding a nice place to Drop Frank and car
where. 1) no fine for sitting in a car park all day, 2) , humans within walking distance...... Just a pity the pub and shop was shut.

Mick we looked for you for a long time after lunch could not find you anywhere, we needed to get off to feed more cats.... apologies for not being around to help with trailer, once tents were down was like sitting in a desert...bit hot and my skin started falling off
Beavis and Jim staying on till monday, keeping an eye on your stuff and some muscle to help.

Home again
awful traffic M25
bloody hot

Always good to see you, Mate!

Spot on report.

A good weekend despite all the issues, sorry I didn’t get to come and watch you run.

See you at the HRDs!
24 hours in a day, 24 beers in a case. Coincidence? I think not…

Although I didn't get there this year, I was behind you in the traffic in MK on your way up, Charger looked superb on the road and quite big too.
I was in the Grand Cherokee so you won't have seen me.
