Dark , wet and generally crap weather today so metal cleaning was order of the day
So back in the boot !
Generally very good with some light pitting
Got some pitting around the boot hinge bases which will hole so got some welding repairs to do

Re: My very last restoration!!!
Managed a few hours today, weather was rubbish again so carried on cleaning the boot area,
It’s a horrible job as access is terrible and has to be done through the tiny boot lid opening!
I’ actually have to fold myself up and squeeze into the trunk
Not easy at my age and especially with my damaged limbs !

I also pulled the lead fill from the sail panel all looks good apart from a few tiny Pitts which will have to be dealt with,
Hopefully the other side will be similar,
The lead fill has been in there for 55 years almost
So it pays to pull it and relead it , as one never knows what’s going on beneath!!

Re: My very last restoration!!!
The shell really does look good for its age. I don’t envy you crawling & rubbing away in the trunk space.
I’ve only played with lead the one time, I found the trick was knowing when to leave it & try not to get it too good with the paddle & perfect finish with file, etc

Haha
Yeah it can be a tad tricky!
But once it’s nicely tinned the lead fill generally goes ok,
I’ve still got all my hickory and willow paddles, and a big ol pot of tallow , so I can normally get it fairly evenly spread
Then use the super corse curved buckle plane
And yes at my age and with my reluctant joints cleaning the boot area has been a truly difficult task,
But needs must etc, I will local blast it before sealing it but blasting at home with a hobby type pressure pot isn’t the best so hence why I try and get the surfaces cleaned as good as possible!
Hopefully get it ready for paint over the next few days
As I’ve only got to work Thursday this week!

Re: My very last restoration!!!
Weather changed completely today so I decided to go for it
Nine hours later my boot floor and rear bulkhead is in Epoxy!
So pleased as this was a complete bitch to do
Also got time to
Pull the lead from the offside , all good except for a rather large hole at the corner of the rear screen flange
Well I say large it’s about the size of my little finger
Must have been like it when the roof and quarter were welded on , so the factory just filled with lead !
Lovely

Haha thank you
Very relieved that the trunk is virtually done now
As you can see , it’s tight and extremely uncomfortable!!

Re: My very last restoration!!!
Been busy couple of days ,
Boot area is all fully sealed now thank goodness!
And finally got around to getting the right hand A post and Rocker blasted and now in Epoxy,
Unfortunately I’ve uncovered some corrosion at the rear lower quarter but to be honest not surprising given it location, so I’ve now got to do some actual restoration!!

The weather has stopped work on the car for now
Just to cold for me now,
I work in a big workshop during the week, and always doing stuff outside due to the size of the things,
So just can’t get any enthusiasm to be frozen over the weekend to !

It hurts to be out in this cold weather which is one of the reasons why I'm not working on my Capri.newsatten wrote: Sun Jan 19, 25 2:12 pm The weather has stopped work on the car for now

Also, I find a break during projects keeps the enthusiasm going. I hate it when things become a chore, its all meant to be fun. Your work is absolutely fantastic, I wish I had just a spoonful of your skill!

Re: My very last restoration!!!
Christmas has come very early this year! The AMD hood looks very well made. Thats got to be from an original die?????? Very nice. Ive never used after market sheet metal. When I restored my old 66 Fury, I made all the panels but they were very simple (lower quarters, trunk floor panels, drop offs etc) compared to your parts and a car like this deserves top quality as opposed to home made (impossible with a hood like that).
You are making great progress, loving this thread. Thanks for the updates and photos,
