My very last restoration!!!

Re: My very last restoration!!!
While I’m trying to sort out the rad support at work I’ve lifted the shell so I can get the underside ready for epoxy
From the front bulkhead to the rear bulkhead it’s virtually like new, but have surface corrosion from the exhaust box position back
I’ve welded one small patch panel which will be fully dressed and will be invisible once primed

Re: My very last restoration!!!
Still got the top arm bush cups to remove but after 9 straight hours I was running out it time and needed to get the blasted arms in Epoxy!
The whole trade war possibility is worrying,
Smash another 25% on imported parts which are already very costly could see me with an expensive ornament in me garage

Excellent work. You seem to be getting a lot done in a short amount of time.newsatten wrote: Sat Mar 29, 25 8:26 am Still got the top arm bush cups to remove but after 9 straight hours I was running out it time and needed to get the blasted arms in Epoxy!

I wish I had bought all the parts I need for my car already. I didn't want to spend too much in one go but will probably end up spending a lot more now because I waited!
Re: My very last restoration!!!
I’m in the same boat son
Still got a lot of parts to buy !
But will have to be brutally honest if prices rocket and use more of the original stuff I’ve got ??
Spent all day today on the underside managed to finish the preparation to the right side and I’m well on the the left side,
I’m completely knackard now , far too old to be lying on my back working upside down for 7 hours!

Re: My very last restoration!!!
That must have been tough going. Blood draining from your arms and getting absolutely covered in dust and grime I imagine!
Re: My very last restoration!!!
Yep !
Finding it hard going now, but I just don’t have the room for a rotisserie and they can be dangerous tools in a confined space,
Since I torn my bicep tendon I’m damaged on my right side now which obviously doesn’t help!
But I’m not to far off paint so that will be a relief!
Joys of restoration work ,

Re: My very last restoration!!!
Spent yesterday on me back trying to clean the floor rear section, the trunk floor is perfect but I do have flakey corrosion to the rear rails and over the axle areas
This is extremely difficult to remove, combination of local blasting and electric wire wheels etc,
Very hard on ones body,
But I’ve done about 75% now so one more day should see it ready to epoxy,
Got a nasty bit of pre repaired rust to the right hand rear drop off, crappy 80’ patch repair etc,
So will chop this out and fabricate a new panel,
Both my Lower outer drop offs have rust damage so I’ll replace with new material when I finally get around to doing the rear quarters,

Great thread.
Enjoying seeing the in depth details.

Re: My very last restoration!!!
Nice work. Shame about that dodgy repair section though but it could be worse and thankfully you have the skills to make it good again!
Re: My very last restoration!!!
Yes it’s completely normal to see this type of bodge,
10 year old car , not worth much so just get it patched up
Most of the damage to the body is were the shell was prepared with a angle grinder,
Just how it was back then,
Been busy behind the seance though, virtually finished all the parts removed, and believe me it’s a lot !

Re: My very last restoration!!!
Very hard work removing corrosion from the metal
When ones got gravity to cope with !
Also extremely difficult to local blast upside down,
Still I keep nibbling away and it’s definitely becoming cleaner ,
This is were a full blown blasting or full acid dipping score,
Both have there own issues, with acid having consequences that can prove damaging at a later date

More fabulous work, when I see the amount of work you have completed, it makes me feel guilty
Great progress as usual, I look forward to the next update
