As is usual, the fittings for the passenger side belts are completely different to the drivers side, so could only get the harness on the drivers side done today  On the search for some different eyelets for the other side now.

In the meantime, was too bloody cold to do much today, so finished stripping the old shifter out and started mocking up positioning on the replacement. :-k

It’s been suggested to me that it’s worth a plate of some description, to incorporate captive nuts, so aIt can all be fixed from above. I like the idea of that, as I fed up of scrambling up and down with the old one.

Good stuff Stu.

I noticed on the tv last night that a Lancia Evo has a similar cut out in the seat for belts.

The restraints still need welding in, but in the meantime, it’s shiny upgrades time… :love10:

Not much to report, but sorted my new shifter out this weekend.

After a fair bit of transmission trouble last season (which turned out to all be down to a poor quality / badly machined part), I decided to go manual valve body. Off to Blue automotive with that, it’s back home with the new valve body and a few upgrades, :thumbright: so time to get prepped for it to go back in.

Took some advice on this and liked the idea of mounting it on a plate, so that it’s easier to get in and out from inside the car, rather than all the faffing about crawling around under the car at the track that went on last year.

Mocked up where I wanted it, then decided to make a bracket that would cover the tunnel in one piece, for max strength.

Drew it out on some 1mm plate, cut and drilled it, then bent it up in one piece. Finally took the chance to start learning to weld and tacked some nuts on the underside, so the shifter bolts directly to the plate, meaning it can be taken in and out easily with 4 bolts.

Won’t talk about the state of the welds, but you can’t see them anyway (thank God) and they’re solid enough. :D

Fitted it all up and decided I didn’t like how it fitted around the base of the tunnel, so cut it back a bit higher, was much happier with the fit. Job done.

Decided against welding it in, so it can be removed at a later date if needed, so painted the underside, patched up the old shifter holes with a bit of thin sheet and riveted it in place.

Pretty happy, just needs a coat of paint during the week and the cable routing and it can all be hidden back under the carpet.

Just a little job, but something off the list.

Are you refitting the centre console Stu? Some careful measuring / cutting needed.
