Wow almost 2yrs since the last post.
Couple of updates on some changes to it, I'd been looking at photos of 3rd Gen's fitted with rear wings and kinda liked the look but wasn't sure. Although cheaper the Go Wing looked too bulky on the 71-74's in my eyes so in September 24 I paid the premium and had Ron Fenton ship a Gull Wing over for me.

Once it arrived it looked okay so in the October the plunge was taken and 4 holes were drilled in the trunk, no going back now :)
Needless to say I like the way it looks and imo the Gull Wing suits the lines of these 3rd Gen's better.

On to this year and the last Bank Holiday, always planned on tucking the rear bumper in a little, I'd already done the front which was just a case of slotting the mounting holes, but the back needs another approach. Easiest way is to buy some 71-72 bkts which are a direct replacement and bring it in closer, I didn't have those but I have a welder :D so a measure up was carried out and a decision made to take an 1" out of the mount bkts.
Cuts were carefully made so I'd have minimal gaps and a bit of clamping and tapping with a mallet everything came together easier than expected. Bit of a clean up and paint and back on it went.
Whilst it was off I decided to sort another thing that bugged me, I'd converted the outer tail lights to flash amber but the lack of red's on the ends at night wasn't something I liked the look of. So using a couple of 5pin relays, diodes and capacitors I made some switchback modules, added these into a plug in loom and ran 2 sidelight tails to the outside lamps. The switchback modules turn these new lights off when the indicators are in use allowing the amber lights to show.

Bumper move in always worth the effort! Sidepipes next for that full ‘70’s look?

Seriously, a well made pair of simple stainless sidepipes could look really period.

It's a deceiving camera angle mate, my drive slopes and where the Mini's parked its steeper. Charger's still sitting pretty low and flat, but I have been thinking of raising the rear.

There’s been a lot of work on the old girl over the years
So nice to see it still getting attention from a long term owner,
Obviously still a few of us nutters left !
