generic spare wheel for 69 Charger - help please

Post by John Leah »

Hello - I am new to the forum and would greatly appreciate some help about a spare wheel size for my 69 Charger.

My wife has banned me from owning a motorbike so my mid-life crisis left me with no other option than to buy my dream car of the last 46 years - a 69 Dodge Charger. My car was used in 2005 to promote the Hazzards movie but then left the scene for 20 years as part of a private collection while undergoing an extensive restoration. I purchased it this month but it lacks a spare wheel.

Is there a generic wheel that can be used front and back please? The tyres (the wheels match the General Lee's) read:

Front P235 60R15
Rear P255 60R15

I am not very technical or mechanically minded when it comes to cars, so I don't understand about axle width and spacers but I have a friend who could find out details if your answers need more information about my car.

The vehicle reg is CNH 320G - there is a bit of stuff out there on the web about my car in case you need to see what the wheels look like.

Many thanks to you all for any help and guidance that you can provide - John

Welcome to the Forum.

What about carrying a generic 15" Steel "get you home wheel> You MAY have to carry spare Lug nuts as the fitment will probably be different but that is not the end of the world.

I think I have one spare Steel wheel.

I also think that may be my old car, but there are several GL's with similar Registration Numbers.

As Pete says , just get a generic steelie. You can probably find a unilug wheel - fits almost anything. Dont know what brakes you have - if not stock just make sure they clear.

Or just join the RAC... :)

Welcome ! I love a good General Lee.

Due to the smaller size of the Challenger boot I have risked not having a spare for the last 11 years and been OK.
Statistics I heard from a dealer is you get a puncture every 160,000 miles, which is why alot of cars now are not sold with spares at all. Just carry a small pump, or foam get you home can, and RAC cover.

The spare? I had wouldn't fit the front hubs, so I opted not to bother as well🤞
