Did a non-AC one yesterday . Not too bad at all . Easier if you take out the passenger seat , and have an assistant in the engine bay ready to pop the nuts on . Connect control cables with the heater still on the floor & check travel / operation. Connect windscreen air hoses to dash vents before installing heater. . Don't forget the metal strap that supports the front of the heater to the rear of the dash.

Whilst you've got the heater out of the way, don't forget to reach up into the fresh air intake in the scuttle & clean it out well, especially around the rim. Any leaves/ dirt/ in there will retain water and lead to horrible rust eventually .

thanks for the advice. The thing im not gonna have a heater in my car for a year or so, and i just thought if it was hard to fit a non/ac one i would put one in b4 the dash goes in but i will leave it for the time being i think.

When you're groping round under there cleaning the vents ,just check the car hasn't had a broken screen. It took me ages to get the little bits of glass out of my fingers

well I don't know much about the yanks but on the aussies if you have aircon the only way the heater unit is coming out is if the dash comes out and the only way that comes out is if the screen comes out.

Please someone tell me there is another way, but having taken 3 apart at scrap yards I have decided there is no easy way!

James is quite correct that to get the dash out of an "A" body you have to remove the screen, unlike an "E" Body or "B" Body...you can't get to the top screws.
