I bid for and won a set of Mopar Performance ally Small Block Valve cover's on ebay. They are in need of paint. Does anyone know if you can buy the special paint they are painted in? If so where?
Cheers
VHT do black wrinkle finish, should be able to get it from any decent motor factor. I can tell you from past experience though that the stuff is a complete wind up to spray. I have used it many times and I really like the finish. You need to shake the can for at least 5 mins to mix it or it will clog the nozzle solid and that will be that. You need to spray the can upside down to clean the nozzle between coats or it will set solid. I usually drop the can into boiled water for about 6 seconds before I spray to get the pressure up a little or the nozzle will clog up. Did I mention the nozzles clog up? Shake the thing like mad between coats or the nozzle will clog up. Like I say a right palarver but the end result is worth it...
I reckon you'll only need the one, it covers very well. But be sure the read the instructions and follow them carefully , this is funny stuff, if you don't put enough on or leave it too long between coats or the air temp is too low it simply won't work. Sometimes it will not wrinkle until the next day, I then leave it somewhere warm to fully cure for another week and then it goes rock hard.
Well i odered the Paint from UASAutomotive. They where more expencive on the paint but the postage was cheaper so they where about the same price overall. Frost wanted ?5.00 to post one can
I will be beadblasting the valve covers, does anyone know if this is a good idea or not?
Depends on how aggresive the media is you are blasting with, some will just remove paint and light corrosion others will roughen the surface of the aluminium as well which you might not want if you intend to leave the fins and script in bare metal. Latil, I have never used a primer with wrinkle finish before, seems to work fine over bare metal.
