Hi all,I have just put some new upper control arms on my B body.Does any one have any methods for setting the front end up,I know I have to get it done profesionaly with the right equipment but I would like to get it some where near before going out on the roads?????

I went fronts full out, rears full in (or vice versa

) to get max caster (stub axle vertice leaning back) this will get you in the ballpark. I then made some very basic tracking gauges out of some angle iron formed into a ^ shape and measured across to get zero track. Then off to the camber/caster/tracking man. HTH!

I was thinking about getting something just to measure camber and toe. Because you want as much caster as the stock set-up will allow anyway so no need to measure that.

I would set it for max caster and then bring the wheel in to 1 degree (or just under) negative camber. The caster will reduce as you go. Then set the toe-in as best you can.

You only want 3mm toe in.

It's a spirit level type gauge that you just mount or hold on the wheel and read off the camber. You measure caster by taking two camber readings with the wheel towing in 20 degrees and towing out 20 degrees, then multiply the difference in the two readings by 1.5. 20 degrees is about one full turn of the steering wheel.

Dave you have the able to measure caster , as you want it equal both sides, otherwise the steering may tend to pull . Adjusting as you suggest will work for max caster both sides , but will almost certainly not give you equal caster .
