US Style plates

Post by Anonymous »

Hi folks,

Where can I get some US style plates from? Some one did tell me on Sunday but I can't remember. And are they road legal, not that it would matter much as I keep getting tugged for exhaust noise. :D

'States Plates' (ad in the back of Classic American usually). Last I looked they only took orders by fax for some reason ...

Anyone ever been done for using these???
And if so, what's the offence and penalty?

I have not heard of anyone being done, but, again like red indicators, they are illegal.

I guess all it would take would be combination of bright colours, loud exhaust and maybe even tyre smoke and a zealous law officer could make a good case.

I suspect it falls foul of Contsruction and Use regulations.

The penalty now, I believe, is confiscation of your vehicle.

You'd get a notice to rectify and produce documentation for those plates. They're illegal on the character width and spacing (unless you have one with the statue of liberty in the middle or something, lol).

Here's the rules.

Note the section on imported vehicles that cannot accomodate standard size number plates.

Why not put on the old black and white UK style plates ? They are valid for pre 1973 cars ( I think) and look nice.

I got my Dart ones from a chap on ebay. He makes them out of Stainless with Black vinyl overlay. VERY good quality. Plus he will do them using any font, although other than standard (as has been said) illegal.

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll? ... %3AIT&rd=1

Its £18 each or i think its £30 the pair. Postage is included.
He's even just made me a plate for our House number. :D

If you want a pic of them on the Dart just say and take one for ya!
