Clutch noise!!

Post by Chris&Adam »

When releasing clutch there is a grinding/grating/whirring noise. This stays on when in gear. The noise stops when clutch is engaged again and taken out of gear. Its a 4 speed box with an 11" clutch. If I need a new clutch, any suggestions as to make and supplier. Hopefully this isn't the case.

Thanks in advance..........Chris.

The noise occurs when I am "feathering" the clutch in first or reverse to try and move the car slowly forwards or backwards. The noise is not there, when pressing clutch down and releasing it with engine running, when car is stationary and in neutral. If the worst comes to the worst any recommendations for gearbox rebuild and new clutch supplier? We have inspected clutch and disc seems OK, however release bearing seems rough/dry. Could this be the problem. Due to the clutch adjustment by previous owner, I think the car may have been running with the release bearing sitting on release forks and spinning.

Any ideas?
Chris.

Just taken car for another run. The noise doesn't occur when changing up or down through the gears. Only happens when moving from stationary in first or reverse when I rev engine slightly as the clutch is engaging. Doesn't happen when bringing clutch up to biting point without revving engine. Gearbox sounds OK. Think its the release bearing. Where can I get a new release bearing from?

Thanks in advance..........Chris
