That was our long term plan, but at the time we didnt know where was best to get them from, especially with 7 full-width digits (ie no 1 in the number) they never look quite right (too cramped).
Long term plan also included trying to get an older reg with 6 digits or less, but that hasnt happened yet either

Blue, perhaps you could recommend where to get them in case Steve wants to investigate?

I suppose a floor shifter affair would look something like your Fury Budgie...? Doesn't that have a bench seat/floor shift.. :?:

Which one is it if so?

Rob they look just as cramped on the Black plate you have, and a States plate fills the mounting area just as it should.
States plates are the Best for this and do a great job and can also do slightly smaller digits if your not happy although your into legal stuff then. :D

you're right Steve (AK) - 7 digits on anything but a full size UK plate is going to look cramped, but what we've got is just about legal (you're ok to go to motorcycle size plate & letters if you have a limited/reduced area to mount your plate, which we have ;) ), and the next best thing to the 'states plate' type. IMHO.
We've seen some states plates that are more 'realistic' than others. It'd be nice to get some that look like the original black plates, sorry, plate  we got with the car, ie plain black with yellow digits.

Piece found from a few years back regarding number plate law and 'blags' in Streatham:http://www.publications.parliament.uk/p ... 424-30.htm

In a letter to Mr. Harry Tune, the DVLA vehicle policy group set out some of the reasons why it does not wish to allow people with American vehicles to use number plates with a smaller font. The letter states:

"Extending the use of the smaller font to vehicles imported from America was carefully considered during the consultation period. The police and road safety organisations had serious concerns over the ability of witnesses to read the smaller characters with the naked eye. The Government is keen to bear down on criminal activity involving the use of the motor vehicles. In many cases the successful

apprehension and conviction of criminals relies on a witness sighting a number plate and being able to recall a part of its number. The success rate will be substantially enhanced with a standardised font as provided for in the new regulations."

That is clearly nonsense. As I mentioned, a car's number plate will be illuminated by two lights, so it will be easier to read than those of motor cycles, but apart from that, a Buick, Pontiac or Chevrolet will be one of the most easily recognisable vehicles in the UK. I put it to the Under-Secretary that a person who was going to do a blag in Streatham would not turn up outside a bank in an American car.

Mr. Edward Davey (Kingston and Surbiton): I agree with the hon. Gentleman. Surely, a person who is doing a blag in Streatham or wherever else will be more likely to use a motor cycle, which would not be covered by the regulations. The Government have got it wrong on both counts.

Steve, if you get your hand's on a copy of next month's ACW, you can
clearly see the floor shifter in one of the pic's.
Only slight gripe was it's a bit to far forward makeing it a bit of a stretch
to change gear, ( it's a reverse manual set-up) woulden't be so much of a problem if your keeping it fully manual. ;) :)
