extreme oil burner!

well i think my little 273 is on its last legs! its pouring out smoke from the breathers, exhausts and even inside the car! its using almost a litre every 50ish miles its costing me a fortune in oil! what is gonna be the best option?

1) get it rebuilt?
2) get it rebuilt to a higher spec?
3) stick a 318 in it?

it would be nice to be a bit quicker too!

How are you limited by insurance ?

If it is a numbers matching motor, then I would put the motor to one side and shove a 318 or 360 in it depending on what your insurance will allow.

You would be surprised how much the costs mount up just doing a "simple" engine re-build. If you can buy a "sorted" motor (preferably one you can see/hear running first) then it can be an attractive and cheaper option.......

..........or you could buy the 360 out of my Barracuda

I agree with Pete. I know you have been itching for a bigger engine anyway. Have a word with your insurer first but a 318 will probably be OK and you can find them cheap anywhere because everyone takes them out to fit 440s.

I know a guy with a Taxi that might be wanting to sell a pretty hot 318 soon?

ive already got a holley on mine. insurance company were a bit iffy about the 318! but i can do whatever i want to a 273. so that is what im after really. i cant rebuild it my self cause i aint got the time or the room so i think a new engine is what i need. but i want it quicker so what should i do to it? im gonna get a new cam but not sure what type? something that will make a difference but not too silly on petrol. and i want to be running nitrous next year. would fitting electronic ignition make much difference?

is the duster rhd trev?
