Top up 727 ?

Post by morgan »

All -

I apologize in advance for the noddy nature of this question -

Just done the oil, filter, plugs etc on charger.
Want to check the fluid in the transmission -
Can I find where to check/fill it ? It is driving me mad ! In desperation I throw my shame open to the forum :(

727 on a 68 charger. Any pointers welcomed.
I realize what a daft question this is !

Thanks !

Should be a dipstick coming up from the front of the trans on the passenger side. Get the trans up to temperature. At idle run through the gears; p, r, n, d, 2, 1, and back, then back to 1 with the parking brake full on. Now check the level. (Wipe the dipstick before checking ;) )

I may start a new thread - "What the dumbest thing".

I had spent perhaps 30 mins crawling around under the car.
Turns out (and here is a tip for you all) Kev is quite right - the designers of the car did anticipate crawling underneath it would be awkward, so thoughfully put a great big tube with a dipstick in the engine bay.

NOT underneath the car.

Ah well....
Never had an automatic ANYTHING before, so live and learn I guess.

Thanks !

(Fluid seems OK, so off to see blue to check the linkages)

da blue man has called -

Top dude !

He has talked me through what to be looking at and I can see that there are a couple of issues (will get some pics tomorrow).
Essentially the kick down linkage is present but ill-adjusted - and fouling on some dodgy looking springs.
I now know what to align and where (and what part of the air cleaner to 'adjust' with a mallett to clear everything ! :)

Keep you all posted ....

Thanks !

Here comes the next noddy question :clown: from a seasoned noddy!

You say check the level in 1? I have always thought you were supposed to check it in N?
