Rear interior out and find a small slim mechanically knowledgable boy (or a person of restricted growth or a vertically challenged one) to crawl in and have a fiddle.

It'll be the connecting rod from the lock barrel to the latch mechanism - sounds like it has detached itself. A small metal strip about 1/4" wide. I'm not near my motor at the moment, but if you get the seats out and get in there with a selection of angled pliers you should be ok.

If you had a B body, you could invite your mates over for a beer and boot opening party and you could all sit inside the boot taking turns to fix it.......folk could probably sleep over in the boot as well....

A haaaa!

I writhed around in the rear of the car and slithered into the boot this morning, finding that (quiter right limeycharger :) )the rod had come away from the barrel.

So to stop it happening again I've taken the barrel out but can now see the original pin that held the rod to the barrel is missing(disitegrated? ) and the spring clip for it has pretty much decomposed too.

I was going to try a small roll pin or a split pin...unless....maybe someone stocks new'uns??
