Master cylinder discs or no discs.

Post by vipergts »

I'm having trouble locating the correct master cylinder.

My car has discs up front and no booster.

I ordered one from a UK source and discovered the feed was on the left and not on the right. (looking from the front into the engine bay)

Year One have now come back to me stating they cannot supply one for a car fitted with discs...only for cars with drums. :?

I'm confused once more and getting even more desperate. I've now lost 3 more days. :x

OK..question.....Is there anyone in the UK that can help me here. Failing that anyone in the US. I'm not keen on sending my unit back to the US and having to wait 2 months for it to come back.

Thanks.......I eagerly await your response.

You guys are the best.

Trigger.....So your M/S is the same as the one I've got on the car? Does your car have discs and or a servo? The reason i ask is because I think this is where the confusion comes in. I'm told that my type means that I shouldn't have discs so they could be retro fit?

Dave ..Thats a very kind offer but what happens when you need to use your car again?

You didn't mention that before. You NEED to fit a master cylinder for front disc brakes. If your existing MC is for drum brakes get rid of it and don't fit another.

Lee,
I dont know if my Master Cylinder is the same as your one without seeing it. I just know it exit's on the right. If you posted a pic or if you wanted me to mail you a pic of mine thats not a problem. My Master Cylinder is for Disk Brake set up and also sits infront of a booster. Hope this helps.

Having a booster or not does not matter except the non booster type MC has a smaller bore usually to make it easier to push the pedal.

Dave I'm not sure if the M/C is the correct one for discs....infact I'm not sure of anything.....I'm getting confused :?

I'd be interested to know if that anyone has the same Cylinder as mine is their car running discs and or booster or what.

I'm gonna attempt to post a picture...not sure if it'll work or how clear but here goes.

that master cylinder is for power and manual drums only , because the fluid reservoir for the front brakes is not big enough to allow for wear in the pads . and extra caliper piston travel with discs .

Agreed. A disc brake MC has one reservoir bigger than the other.

Thanks steveo ....it's beginning to make sense now....I think.

If you can't get one with the smaller bore don't worry too much. You just have to push harder with your foot. ;)
