Problems with paintwork - what to do next...

OK non-Mopar, but I've recently been respraying my Ventora and I sued Lechler TI Green as a primer on multiple peoples recomendations (and that was a swine to get on right), now I've applied 2-3 coats of HS basecoat (Rio Verde mica green) and due to poor weather conditions when I did it (too hot, too humid) I have a number of defects in the basecoat. I also have noticed defects in the primer showing through which I hadn't spotted before.

I have a couple of litres of the basecoat left.

So do I sand it all down again getting the defects out everywhere and then just re-apply basecoat or will I have to re-primer it. I'm thinking I will need to prime it as I'll be through the basecoat to primer in getting it right and then if I just re-apply basecoat it will show a shaddow of where it was rubbed through?

I'm not wanting to spend the rest of my life doing this car (it feels like it already), I don't want yet more mistakes (I could leave it as-is if that were the case) and I don't want to end up with paint an inch thick on the damn car.

The main problems are that there are sanding marks in the primer, some orange peel from the primer and the basecoat went on a bit funny in the heat and has dried a little patchy.

What a chore this has tuned out.

As Ivor is sunning himself in some holiday destination i can't rmember, i will attempt a reply!

There is no reason why you shouldn't sand back what you have until you think the prep is good enough (assuming you don't gio through the primer obviously) and then reapply the base coat.

You do run the risk of shadowing if you don't put enough base coat on though. Try going over the areas you break through the primer first until it is all green again, then flat back one moe time if needed and redo the whole car for the final time in basecoat.

I think you will be needing some more base coat though!

In my experience applying base coat at the current temps is gong to be trouble depending on how metallic it is. The main challenge will be a consistent no blotchy finish. Havn't used lechler myself so don't know what the best technique will be, but the colder the less likely you will have problems.

Hope this helps, coming as it does from an experiened ametuer, not a pro like Ivor.
