The Olds has a very similar trans. I think the switch pitch works slightly differently on that though, or so someone was tryig to tell me. I also think the SP doesn't work and its stuck in low stall. When its sorted I'll check all the switch gear out. But thats another story. It certainly doesn't feel anywhere near as lively as the 'lil Buick does, but gearing does play a huge part in that I guess. (the olds is like a 2.93 rear, excellent f you mash the edal at like 50 and it just pulls like a trooper in top, but it lacks that low speed feel that a lower geared car has)
Interestingly the ST400 is quite a different box to the TH400. I got a bunch of TH400 service parts and guess what - they don't fit! pan gasket, filter, valve body, all different and thats before you pull anything else.
The only thing I don't like about the ST400 is theres no part throttle down shift, its full throttle only. part throttle only activates the high stall mode. Apparently theres a trick to use an Oldsmobile valve body used in certain years which will operate the S/P correctly and give automatic part throttle down shifts.
crikey thats a whole lot of irrelevant blah isn;t it.
