Battery advice
Need a new battrey to power my 360. Alex had previously sugested diesal Transit type (?80 Quikfit!) however, Quickfit provided Ivan (440 Challenger) with the 'correct' battrey only for the alternator to 'overcharge' it and thus melting the battery. Any further suggestions or do i go for the transit battery?
the duster is a 273 auto the battery is in the boot which uses more power , according to the haynes book it is anything between 500 and 650 amps , most aftermarket only list one , it seems ok for a v8 , its suprising how little power you need , my old 3500 rover used a mini battery and my 3ltr scimitar used a reliant robin one , if everything else is in tip top condition a small battery will work . personaly i would use the bigest battery phisicaly possible if you dont want any problems , when you buy it tell the shop its for your normal car , many warranties wont cover classic or american cars
I am trying to solve asimilar battery problem,
I went to go and get a transit diesel battery from my freindly neighbourhood battery shop, he asked me what transit it was for to which I explained how it's actually for an old V8. I had brought the battery with me, and he looked at it a and told me it was a japanese spec battery, with cold crank of 740 and 90amp hours, and that a diesel transit battery doesn't have as much power. A similar battery was ?80 (exact same measurements and amps), Anyway he also tested my old battery and after reporting that it was reading 11.4 volts offered to give it a proper charge overnight to see if it's ok or not, explaining that alternators are designed to just replace the power used not to deep charge the battery, and that if a battery gets too low it reverses polarity, and er, gets hot (to be honest I wasn't listening properly at this point.) He also had a good laugh when I told him I had been jump starting it from my golf. Meh.
So I've left the battery with him to charge up, and maybe it'll be fine, else I'll buy the budget version of the japanese spec battery at ?60.
So If I do have to buy a new one, have I been running an overpowered battery on my 360, and a (smaller) transit job will do, or should I get the closest replacement for my old battery? ?60.

i'm using a Hitachi battery that is at least 12 years old on my Dodge ! (old skool screw caps)
Worst battery i bought recently was a Fulmen, and worst ever ever ... Pavillion. (made in Brighton i believe)
Yuasa make a good batt. Also the Varta ones seem ok.
If buying a battery, pick a heavy one. Might actually have enough lead in it to be half decent!
