Suregrip or not?

Post by Trigger_Andy »

I was led to believe that the 8 3/4" Diff I had on the Barracuda was a Suregrip, but now Im not to sure? I guess the big giveaway is when I spin one wheel the other rotates in the other direction. I have added a picture of some numbers if they help any?? I have someone lined up to buy it on monday and dont wanna shaft him. They read 2070741, 25 and 89

if the other wheel spins in the opposite direction its not a sure grip
or possibly its knackered? so it might as well not be
the numbers are just which casting you have, nothing to do with whats inside it

OK cheers. When I bought the car the owner said it was a Suregrip and I never checked. Is there an easy way to look inside the housing and see whats there without damaging or loosing anything?

In short; No! Wheels off, drums off, halfshafts pulled out, prop off, unbolt all the nuts. Hit with large lump of wood until the pumpkin pops, gear oil everywhere, then you can see!

Some people say you can look through the filler plug hole......maybe a bit of a longshot but maybe if you got a good camera and light to it you might see enough to know.

If you don't know how to tell from looking do a web search and you will find pics of clutch, cone, and open diffs.
