line lock/roll control question

Post by Anonymous »

I know that a line lock is supposed to be fitted in the front brake line to hold pressure in the system when realising the brake, but could it be fitted in to the rear brake system, so when operated before pushing the brake it stops pressure getting to the rear cylinders? and then you can do a burnout holding the brake pedal.
I ask this as it would be better for me to hide the linelock solenoid under the car(and easier to install)

Mine is plumbed in the back as you suggest. I've got a frowned upon toggle switch that just switches the back brakes off. Must be something to do with me not stopping down the other end of the track  , and nearly zoomung onto the roundabout outside the Priory one year. If you put it in the rears use a momentary button.

Ditto, mine fitted to back line (don't forget to fit 'wrong' way round). I was also going to fit frowned-on toggle rather than momentary but don't do it if you've got bad memory!!

Opinions vary (there is recent Moparts thread on this very question) but I say do it!

Mine hold the front brakes on, as opposed to the rear brakes off, and I believe safer for it.....works better for 4 speed cars that way around as well IMO.

I suppose it would be easier to do rolling burnouts if it is plumbed into the rear line.

Nope. Plumb it into the front brakes. Don't be a fool.

You press the brake pedal hard, engage the line lock, and do your burnout - releasing the front brakes when needed to roll out.

Then there is no danger of leaving the rear brakes switched off on your run.

i was going to wire one into the horn circuit via a switch to knock the horn itself off off so that the self realease horn button activates the line lock solenoid - you have to hold the horn button down to keep the solenoid engaged but no horn blasting, let go and all your brakes are back
just an idea as it is far easier to plumb into the rear brakes

Mine is a momentary switch on the top of my shifter under my thumb. So I can shift from 1st to second during the burnout.

There is absolutely nothing wrong with a linelock in the rear line. Use a momentary switch if you are worried about leaving it on. It's a matter of preference, which is fine, most people go with the front, a reasonable minority go in the back, just do what you prefer.

Mine's on the front, with a BIG red warning light in the dash, definately the best way to go!!! 8-)
