After finding a puddle of water in the footwell this morning, I decided to put it right.

After I removed the heater (new core leaks anyway so I needed to) I could see the water was getting in through the cold air feed so I whipped the off side wing, sorry, fender off and found what appears to be a air vent/drain of some kind but this seems to be where it's getting in so:

Am I missing some sort of gasket for between the wing and the lower section of the scuttle/bulkhead

Or should this hole be blocked off??

Or is it the drainage for the vents (where the screen wash jets shoot up from) and because it was blocked full of mud/soil/crap is the water maybe running into the cold air feed because it can't run out the hole?

Or any other ideas?? :?

On our Barracuda the water in the footwell was traced to shrinkage of the rubber bushings on the windscreen wiper shafts. Might be worth a look on your car as it's easy to see at a glance.

Looks like the whole is meant to be there to me, my Ranchero has something very similar (sorry, no pics) at either side of the scuttle panel. I'm guessing that it is as you metioned drainage for any water collected in the scuttle area below the vents
