B&M shifter for the bin.

Post by Anonymous »

Just got home from the nats pulled on to the driveway and no gears.
The second shifter cable has burnt through, this one tied away from the headers.
There is no way I can move the cable any further away from the headers.
Is it easier to get another shifter e.g Cheater?
1st one melted going back to the pod had to start it up in 2nd .
Help!

Saw Andy (white sport satt) this afternoon. All locked up indeed. Had to be dragged kicking and screaming across tarmac according to Andy. He got home then piled in to his pickup and continued the trip back to nats! Well done that man! And he was smiling!

Get yourself a Winters or an Art Carr, cable enters from the rear of the box, no more burnt cables....

Cheers guys!
Its a pro Ratchet, it was fine, got me all the way back up to Notts, left it running for 5 mins outside then it went 6ft in front of the garage!
Funny thing was, the motor felt like it had no power 5 mins before, then I moved the carpet away from the pedal and hooray! felt like a 440 motor then!
Oh well better wait till next pay day till I can afford a 2nd hand shifter.

Use your brains not your wallets boys. :)

I use a Hurst shifter and could see that the cable was going to get hot so I not only routed it away from the headers as much as possible but I also insulated it where I thought it would burn with foam pipe cladding, covered that with heavy nylon spiral cable wrap, and then wrapped that in several layers of tin foil.

After many months of use the nylon melted a bit but stayed in place and the cable is as good as new. Although it does still lengthen slightly when the engine is hot.

Ah i have some of that left, next job on the list,
if a car boils at say 210, why don`t they coat it with something that`ll take 280/300, then when the car cools down and whatever made it over heat is fixed at least you can drive home :angryfire: :banghead: :mytwocents:
