That seems quite reasonable for a peace of mind type exercise.

Yeah. But you still need to try it first.

If it is not making a noise and the backlash is OK then there is no need to change the r&p.

If it has a suregrip test it on the car. If it works no need to replace that.

THEN you can pull it apart and inspect the bearings and replace those if they need it.

A set of bearings and a rebuilt kit is probably less than £200 and can be fitted by anyone.
