Are'nt there different rear brake cylinders available to prevent this problem from happening with the front disc setup?

Make sure the push rod operating the master cylinder is allowing the brakes to fully release. The brake light switch can cause the pedal to be slightly depressed if it is over adjusted. The piston in the master cylinder needs to return fully back to it's retaining circlip or the brakes will drag.
