BTW the wheels are the same blue as the body, but with the NEC lighting as it is (was), you can be forgiven

At least you were looking at the wheels and not pointing at the rear light surrounds and trunk trim panel, like most of the people we saw looking at the car..... "ooh they havent done that bit..." etc etc

Think only the jealous would find anything at all wrong with your car!! Think they forget our cars are 45 years or so old and full of character.... Very easy to restore things to death and kill the life out of them! The best bit of my car doesnt come close to the worst bit of yours.... as I said, dream material, a great car, fantastically restored and a real credit to you!

I thought the quality of the American Cars were fantastic... I would have loved to have seen the red Buick without all the bits n pieces draped on it etc, just the car... it was stunning. The white mustang was absolutely perfect and the black pPontiac ( I think) had a great original feel to it. Very nice cars and just shows how much effort everyone puts into looking after their cars.

WHAT IT IS,people expect that a heat winner is going to be flawless to have got that far and the ultimate winner would only just be able to scrape victory as all heat winners should be perfect hence why people look for faults on cars of this standard,

Thats a good point Dunc that I hadnt even considered..... I would hate the job of choosing to be honest....they were all great cars in their own right and it was obvious the owners had all put a huge amount of work into getting as far as they did! I would slap a trophy on them all!!!

Terry also saw an Audi Quattro that had climbed a road sign and rolled into the ditch...apparently it was a UR model and belonged to the Chairman of one of the Audi clubs. If it was the one I overtook on the M40 going up to the show with a UR number plate, it was a minter...these Audi boys need to get some driving lessons in I reckon

Remember speaking to one of the Dream Rides crewe a few years back. Apparently some of the cars are loaned by their owners for use over the weekend and driven by the charity workers........I hope this was not the case for the R8......Can you imagine the phonecall.......Your charitable weekend donation is not as it once was..............

I was stopped a while back by some guys in lambo of some description they asked me if i fancied joining that charity to give rides in my bentley, i sort of was up for it but never made the call and after seeing the size and shapes of people trying to get them selves inside some of the cars i am so glad i never did it i would of been squirming as people were scuffing my leather seats and trim etc. lou has had to learn how to enter and exit a car in gym fashion as i keep my car immaculate and its got to stay that way,

so i should make a donation its a good charity,

Absolutely Dunc, agree 100%. But they do have a habit of dishing out 'heat winner' awards to something that takes their fancy, as opposed to just giving it to the best resto, at whichever particular meet it is.

Like the LTD on the stand this year. It got their heat winner at Wheels Day (if memory serves) cos it's a nice original, unrestored car, but it's never going to get the top award at the NEC cos you're unlikely to find an unrestored car in this country in a good enough condition to compete with a freshly restored car.

During Sunday's 'awards ceremony', Ben did briefly speak about the idea of having 2 awards - restored & unrestored, but said they'd stick with the same system as an unrestored class would get too difficult to judge.

There was also the weather this year, a lot of the exceptional cars either didnt venture out to some of the shows if the weather was bad, or cars left early before judging had commenced and cars had been chosen.
