For goodness sake make sure the relief valve works!!!
I didn't and it fired my oil filter clean out the engine bay the first time I started it.... followed by 3 litres of oil!!!
Make sure both the gasket surfaces are flat and nice, if not get a flatting block and some wet 'n' dry and make them flat. I believe the adapter on the block twists into location? if so ensure it hasn't pinched the gasket.

The relief valve can be found inside the oil pump assembly, it is spring loaded and allows oil to go back into the sump if the oil pressure gets too high. You'll have to pull the sump off and take the oil pump out to check it, but if it is a brand new pump it should be fine. I don't have any pics handy to post what I mean (not at home right now).
