I ran have used the same 7 AL2 for at least 15 years, I did swap it out when I thought I had problem, but turned out to not be the MSD.

I have read & heard good feedback about the Digital 6 (lower pic)

I still use me old trusty FBO stuff Jon, never had an issue with that.
I still reckon that's all you need for a fast road/track car, seen plenty of 440's in the low 12's using em :thumbright:

The ONLY reason I use MSD is that it has a built in Rev limiter.

Also needed the 20 degree on start up facility on the Race car with locked out timing.....less of an issue on the road car.

I am after and old school small Tach that will sit on top of the steering column that will be compatible with an MSD.....Blue??? ;)

HEI (Obvious and $20 well spent) or megajolt Lite Jnr (prgrammabale crank trigger wasted spark 2 maps (starting and track or road and track or NOS and NO NOS)

and

then if they go wrong its dirt cheap or its your own fault due to bad soldering

dunc never looked at a digital one

happy to take a mooch but unless its obvious (i.e burnt bits) its a damn sight harder (Chips and ICs) than a MSD6 AL (all analogue resistors capacitors and normal stuff) to work out whats up.

Always make me wonder why people mount the control box under the hood

They are clean, small and tidy....so mount it under or in the glove box away from heat, fuel, water, oil or anything that can harm it ?

electronics mate, theres just no tell tale signs....they work... then they don't.

when you say small tach what make Pete ??

MSD quality has gone to pot, they used to be rock solid reliable. Had a used one on the Duster for years and I put a new one on the Dart when I got it, still going strong after 15 years.

I am not fussed on the make of the tach.

It needs to be pod-mounted and look in-keeping with the '69 Bee - and compatible with the output of an MSD, I do not want to run the tach adapter if I can avoid it....

I did not want to mount it in the Glove box, but sadly that is starting to look like the most viable option for all the reasons Steve and Ade has mentioned.

I was going to make a mounting bracket and put it on the Radiator Support, but I think that is too vulnerable for ingress of water if it rains.......

"Vintage" Sun tachs are being made again, should be compatible. Mancini list 'em.
