Re-using a head gasket?? You must be mad! Seriously, i have no idea why you would do that?

On the ring front, did you check the actual ring (not the rails) actually had tension when in the bore?

No v8s round here

In at 7:00
Rockers off
Guide plates off
Head studs out
Crane out
Exhaust and inlet still on
6 inches to play with

Up and left 6 inches

No.6,5,4 uniform black dry carbon
No.3 strangely wet and whipes clean to shiny piston
No.2 oily
No.1 as per 6

Gasket looks ok no damage apart from loss of black stuff in raised areas

Spent 1/2 hour with brake cleaner soaked cloths cleaning till no black
Dropped in standard gasket (a new one)
Plopped on head
Studs back in

In for me tea
Torque it later

If this works I,ll eat my hat

But lost all patients with it

Good luck Dave.
Roger, Cometic gaskets are meant to be reusable. Not sure how many applications though.

Feel for both of you.
Not the fun part of owning a classic at all.

Hope it works out well for you both ;)

I was told by Dave Powell (Performance Unlimited) who imports Cometic ( I know Turnip does as well) not to re-use the Head Gaskets.

At £200 a pair I would have been much happier if I could have re-used them.....

Sorry. I may be misunderstanding here.

MLS - Multi-Layer-Steel: Composite Shim Gaskets.....not solid copper gaskets.....that's what I used...not sure this is what Dave has.......
