Right....lots to check now before I go too much further....
Thanks for your advice on the phone earlier Pete, really appreciate it as always. Going from what you say, I will retard the timing back to stock just to see if it makes a difference.
Blue....I will go through all the points you have thrown up and check everything. Don't know the first thing about Holley carbs but I think a visual inspection of the ports on it will tell me if anything is uncapped that needs to be.
Mike, Pete has also suggested cleaning and inspecting the carb so that is on the cards. Its quite new so may just check the float height to start with before going mental and losing everything.
Blue / Terry, will get a can of carb cleaner and spray it round the base of the carb etc to check for leaks, if I can get her to idle again. Will also check the advance springs Blue.
Miles....will try that test before all else I think....will go down the timing route first, try to get her to idle again, then the vac leak route and if no improvements, carb off and a good clean etc.
Wont be able to look now till Thursday so plenty of time to prep and research etc.
Thanks for all the ongoing advice and support men....cheers

Thanks Terry....Ive fixed it mate....it was a timing issue.
Not sure if Ive gone abpout this the correct way but its fixed now. here is what I did.......
I started the car and held her on the throttle till she was warming up at 1500 rpm. Foot off pedal, died but warm.
Disconnected vac pipe, blocked port on carb.
Fitted remote starter then started her from the engine bay and slowly turned the idle speed screw to raise RPM to 1500 so she ran.
In my estimation, at 1500 rpm, I should see about 25 deg advance.
Set timing light to 25 deg, turnrd dizzy till I had 25 deg set. (I cant remember if I had to advance it or retard it....doh).
Readjusted the idle speed down to 800 rpm....initial now shows 16 deg BTDC.
Starts and runs fine and I can drop her into all the gears now without her dying...
Problem solved hopefully. Pete, as we thought, timing was a good starting point eh. I can only assume that my initial reading was wrong as I had to turn the dizzy quite a lot to get the 25 deg at 1500 rpm.
thanks for all your help men...MMA to the rescue again
Cheers Steve

Definitely Pete.....thanks for being on the end of the phone for me.. appreciate it!!
Wont be any time soon to be honest. Ive got to go through a few things, little bit of welding etc before I consider an attempt at the MOT. Much like the Fury. Gently does it, enjoy it and try to improve on the skills I made a start on with that car
