sounds like the input "Hot wire" position you have chosen is not the input hot wire.

do the same test with the input into each of the other 4 wires.

one is the correct one

think you have the input into the starter wire.

either that

or the child in china that made it put the slider in 180* out.

willing to have a crack at it if you can wait a bit

Hi Dave, yes I had thought of that but ran out of time last night (and will..).

That would mean more butchering, but might yet prove correct.
Thanks for the offer. I have a switch coming. Hopefully it will fit if not I might ask you to take a look once I've exhausted my options.
