you can get new filter elements on aussie/US ebay
although i don't think anyone is making them now
it may be cheaper to get spin on adapter in the long run but the old fashioned filters worked ok.
production like assembly and ease of servicing drove the changer rather than anything being intrinsically wrong with the tech.
in fact you can buy modern versions of washable reusable oil filters tend to be expensive becasue it is a "buy once" job
