So by Thursday last week everything was ready to start the engine for the first time, until I put water in the rad and it all came pouring out through, what I think, is a recent hole! (just a few days to long sitting round in the garage!!). Anyway, Friday off for repair and it is due back today, so hopefully when I get back from work this evening, we should be ready for the first test run! ;)

well I am getting there. Finally got rad back after second attempt of fixing it (they put the brackets on 1/4" back and it wouldn't fit!) and had a go at starting it today, unfortunately only managed a bit of spluttering so no luck at moment. Going to try getting battery fully charged cos I don't quite think it's spinning fast enough.

You'll soon have it purring away.
Be nice to see it when back on the road. Loving the retro style you are following. :thumbright:

Well this is the best I've got so far, , after several attempts I've given up and decided to wait for some more expertise to see what I'm doing wrong but meanwhile I shall be ordering a new starter, new battery (I thinking the Bosch S4 is a bit goosed cos at 95Ah and 830A it should be enough) and another set of ignition leads cos I'm getting a spark but they look tatty. However if anyone who watches that video has any more ideas I shall be very grateful ;)

Try altering the dissy a bit as the timing sounds out and very laboured. Increase the idle screw a bit on the carb for more rpm. Once it's running you can set the timing and adjust the carb to improve idling.

thanks for that :thumbright: I know the timing is wrong because it is set at TDC but I was hoping it would run enough to set up. The bit where it is running it was doing so on partial throttle. I have tried moving the dizzy while turning it over but had no effect. Problem with repeatedly trying is I'm guessing I have ended up flooding the carb and the electric choke comes off and takes a bit to reset. I'll give it another go later as I've left the plugs out all night hoping that any excess fuel will evaporate. Also going to check that it is set at TDC so I can work out from there what it should be set at, I don't suppose you have any suggestions for number of degrees it should be set at?

Ok decided to make sure plug gaps were right, reset dizzy position cos I didn't like were it was sat, set the timing to 12 degrees and I'll post the reult when it's uploaded! had to stop it due to the pipes to transmission oil cooler springing a leak :( again something that was fine before I removed them :x
