Owen's 78 b100 318

Post by Owen318 »

Hi there, just thought I'd post a pic of a little project I picked up last year. I picked this up last year and haven't done much with it till now, having now removed the engine for a rebuild.

I'm new to the club and new to american vehicles and finding someone/a company who is really willing to offer help and advice to get me up and running has proved difficult. So I thought I'd give you guys a try.

The van may be recognised by someone, but if they do I doubt it's what they remember as I'm pretty sure the engine has been robbed of any good bits it had on it even if it's the same engine. I have been told it has been down the strip but that would definitely not be in it's current form as it wouldn't pull the skin off a rice pudding at the moment. I'm looking to get about 300bhp and a good amount of torque out of it and any advice would be greatly appreciated.

I love that van, what's the score on the motor then, it should get a wriggle on with a small block in it!
The pump don’t work coz the vandals took the handles.

probably has a 318 in it
might have a 360 in it

http://popularhotrodding.automotive.com ... index.html

number of people on here could be pursauded to assist with a 318 build if you don't want to do it yourself...

if they don't put their hands up check some of the recent threads regarding making cars go and getting machine work done :)

remeber also that the 318 was also built in Australia
i.e
cams and heads and stuff can also come from there
also kits to put an eaton m112 on it yeeeeehaaaaa
or indeed LPG
depends what ya wanna do.

This book is quite good

Thanks for comments and advice. Got an idea which way I'm going with the engine. I've been recommended to change the heads (I know at least 2 valves are bent) Does anyone know where I can get replacements preferably better than standard for a 318 without spending huge amounts. I know I can put some edelbrock ally heads on but not really wanting to spend £1500 when I can rebuild the rest of the engine for that! I may change my mind but if someone can suggest a cheaper alternative I'd be grateful.
Also another issue I've got are tyres particularly the rear ones. It's running 255/60/15's on the front which I know I can get no problem but I can't find the 285/70/15's for the back. I've looked for alternatives but I want to keep the stance at the rear and all other alternatives seem to drop it to low. The tyres that are on passed an MOT and have good tread but are quite badly cracked on the side wall and I'm thinking better be safe than sorry.

Welcome Owen

Might be worth looking at parts section .. a guy called Witorque has posted some small block heads and engine parts

May be some bits there than can sort you ?

Failing that I have a 318 if you need one, but needs a rebuild as I don`t know it`s history

I know it's been a long time since last post but just thought I'd update. The engine has been out and in for a rebuild for well over a year and I've finally got round to start sorting out the bodywork. Anyway a few pics should follow assuming I can upload them!
