[quote="baccaruda"]Hi Les,

Cookies Dart!
Used to run 8.3's at 180mph.
Street legal and all that stuff!
Now owned by Ray?
Me and Jimbo ran with an iron-headed 440 as funds were tight.
Ex Rob-Loring built motor, ex Grumpy's Dart?
Raised port 906's, 1/2'' spacers screwed to intake sides.
Steel crank, ali rods, venolia pistons 13 t0 1.
650 Crane roller cam with Crane Golds.
Team 'G' with 1050 street dominator.
4.56 gears and humungous tyres 31 x 16's.
Best run by Jimbo was 10.40 at 132ish.

That's pretty good, what weight was the car and what dur was the cam

[quote="baccaruda"]Hi Again,

Mick Payne and the Artful Dodger!
Iron headed 440, ex Hauser motor.
He used to run 10.40's all day long in a very heavy 67 Coronet!
Tunnel ram with twin 750 double pumpers.
Think he used to cheat abit with a shot of NOS!!!
Story goes he had a buyer for the motor and run it one time too many.
Guess what, the motor went bang and 5grand went up the swanny!
Still got one of the heads orf dat motor, very nice work done by Hauser back in the day!!!

The pink car went 11.00 on the motor, seen it run loads of times.

I'm sure we could have gone quicker in Cookies Dodge, with better gears and smaller tires, those I.C.E heads were a work of art, I hope they are all right after engine failure at the Nat's.
My GTX back in 1988 was full weight and was driven to the pod, and all I ever did was drop the exhausts and it ran consistently 12.8's and that was a 440 with ported iron heads, hydraulic cam, TM7 inlet, 800 DP carb, hooker headers and 3.23:1 gears, I later put 590 purple cam 4.30:1 gears and slicks and it ran 12.1 at 113mph but with a lobe wiped off, I preferred it in it's more streetable guise I could beet anything around and when I took people out in it they couldn't believe such a big car could go so well
:thumbright: a bit like my Dodge now big cubes Ally heads 10.50 at 130 :thumbright:

Roger Povey and his 70 Cuda!
10.01 with a Koffel iron headed 451, (440-crank in a 400-block)
Had the heads orf that motor too when that went to mopar heaven.
They were so heavily ported they were lighter than ali ones LoL!!! :D
A true work of Art and proof that the iron head was King of the strip.
Koffel believed that the late model '452' head was even betta than the 906!
I think that motor will be back on the track agian in the near future, in another Cuda LoL.

bacca.
Hi Bacca, yeah them Koffel motors were something....too dear for my budget at the time....basically a super stock motor like the Hausers Paul Rossi Challenger but with extra cubes, certainly made hp, and yes those 452 heads could produce well over 300cfm of flow on a max port and were more readily available.
Only downside was no N20 so whatever it ran in your chassis, that was it, I guess some went tits up cos some tried the N20...don't know the full story.

Need some more car specs/times chaps, how about some of you quicker guys posting up as well, or don't you wanna give your secrets away ;)

Long and short of it is I reckon, if you got a good set of heads, ported, big valves, a good cam around .600", 10>10.5:1 CR and a big carb with a stock bottom end your gonna make around 500 horses or a touch more depending how much porting you got, but not much more. My hp with the ET/speed/weight of car worked out at 515 on motor and 637hp with a 175 shot of N20.

Be conservative with your engine hp figures and you won't be dissapointed on the track!...

Ok I'll have a go les, my old 63 belvedere, weighed 3500ld without me so 3700 all in race weight, 500ci mopar mega block, ported Indy 440-1 heads 718/690 roller cam and 14.5-1 compression, was mini tubbed and on ladder bars running a 28x12 slick, best 60ft was 1.41 best et was 9.80@136.6 oh and it was registered and used occasionally on the street, had an msd timing retard in the car so could instantly knock 5-6 degrees out put in optimax and it'd cruise nicely,

thanks for posting boys, impressive numbers for heavy cars like that, shame them motors weren't in lighter A bods....we might've seen an 8 from you Jerry :thumbright:

I guess it just takes a few racers out there to run pucker engine combo's like these in light cars and we'll have some more 8 sec mopars.
