How old do you think I am? And more importantly how old do you think I was when I joined and got my Charger? And I suspect after 5 years of me being back at uni Mr Bedford's finances are considerably stronger than mine.

I wasn't arguing for the sake of it, I was making a case for thorough maintanence. Checking the balalnce of rotational parts after a rebuild is good practice and can save agro time and money and possibly a life.

All this talk of prop loops is great, but it masks the fact that the only instance you'll be needing a prop loop (in a stock car) is if your prop wasn't correct to start with. Do your sums, be thorough and the need for extra safety devices should be academic. Bear in mind we aren't talking race cars here.

I dropped a prop Friday morning,on the New Yorker on my the way to 2006 Nats.
Removed it of on the roadside took it to the guy in Luton (Sorry forgotten his name and the company), but I am sure someone on the site knows of him.
Great guy in a small workshop back of some houses.
Cut of both ends fitted larger uj's balanced it for £90 had it back on and turned into the POD at 10pm in time for a beer.
Top Man.

So,out of interest, how many of you go round all the lube points every 1000 miles and do a visual check for loose/worn/perished components?

I do,and always have. Things don't pack unexpectedly then. ;)

I occasionally give the prop a twist by hand to see if there is any play in the joints. But only if I am under there for another reason.

When a certain chap's prop let go on his Charger it took a huge chunk out of the floor, snapped the tailshaft off the trans and the prop was lost down the motorway, as well as ruining a nice pair of frilly pants. He had a prop loop...............Hanging on his garage wall! :D Make a prop loop......

Just my 2 cents worth

I took my El Camino for a carb tune up 2 months ago and the prop let go on the rolling road- Not the UJ - It ripped in 1/2 - dug in the rolling road- smashed the gear box , ruined the torque convertor and left a big hole in the underside

£2000 later I am wishing I had thought about loops etc-
Consensus of opinion from the prop guys (Recoprop in Luton - where Bob went) was that the standard prop was way to weak for the Modified engine(all modded in the States before I bought it)
never even though about it-

Very peeved but also feeling lucky I wasnt driving it at the time
