To each his own, there is no way I could live in a big town or city any more - the noise and proximity of people just drives me up the wall; I would just want to kill everyone...........

I think thatch is one of those jobs you just have to get your teeth in to and give it your all to make the best possible job of it you can and through lots well years of practice could certainly become a master of the art i can certainly see the appeal

The only time you take off more or back to the wooden rafters is when there is a structural issue......It is not built in defined "Layers" (Conservation people do not understand this either) you just have to level it out and do your best...............

I think you are right, Duncan; more or less what the Thatcher said - he lives for it and the satisfaction of a job you have done from start to finish and seeing a great end result............

Yea here that would have been torn down years ago for a parking lot

We are coming back,next summer if all goes well,and I want to see your place up close, looks killer

Yep said Flickers. I know you don't have thatched roofs but I ment if you did the flickers would love getting up to their with it, wouldn't last long with them.
