cool car - thought (sort of hoped) that i was the only one - but its good to know that others have the need to make up for lack of manhood by buying a monster car
mines a 69 new yorker 4 door unfortunately - the 2 doors look a lot longer with the rear deck exaggerated - the best looking has got to be the 69 polara - sort of like a supersized 71 cuda - the 2 door new yorker pretty cool too
i guess if you can't afford a new yorker a 300 is ok - thnak good you don't have a newport - so bloody down market!!
i'm about 20 miles south of you - so 12 minutes or 4 gallons depending how you measure it
have spent a year fannying about with it as wiped out a lamp post which took some sorting and wrangling to get fixed - i'll post pics when i get get pc to work
ref the rear indicators - mines passed twice so i guess its down to sympathetic (negligent) mot tester - send me a pm if you need to knwo one
i've changed the torsion bars on mine and with a bigger sway bar its made a huge difference - but still regret not getting it event tighter - happy to give an opinion if you are thinking about it

Tim, is yours the gold NYer with the John Sleath built motor on cbodydrydock.com?
I'm guessing it is. Sweet car, how does it go? I like the style of all the fuselage C-bodies but I've got a real thing for the Imperials at the moment – shame they're even heavier!
There's getting to be quite a few Mopars around this area now. We need to cruise when the sun shines.
Anyway, here's a few shots of my progress. End of May is my self-imposed deadline so this week I took the whale to my mate's workshop and got cracking on the rust around the rear window in preparation for its new vinyl roof next week.
First drive in it too. It's big, boaty, vague and torquey – wonderful.
Anyway, to the pics...

That looks pretty sound around there. Only a couple of monor bits of rust. wish mine had been that good.

yes - thats the one - glad you like it - "how does it go?"
remenmbering its a 40 yr old car - pretty bloody fast - cruise it everywhere at 85 (3500rpm) with regular blasts up to 4500 rpm - but as i have already crashed it once i don't want to risk it again so have throttled back the caning the arse of it type behavior
if you have the time before its back on road in may then stick a stiffer sway bar on it - makes a big difference - also in the absence of a firm feel steering box a small steering wheel does make it feel a bit less vague - and the standard wheel (if its like mine) is pretty puke
ref your vinyl roof - why not go without - the pics of c bodies "naked" make them a lot cleaner - and i presume save you some cash as well - without the vinyl they look a lot more modern - but that might be the opposite of what you want to achieve - but will save you some money for the engine
good luck with your barge and see you around for a burn up some time
i go to the pod quite a bit - not to race just to watch - say hello if you see me - will be interesting to see how you do at the race series in york - ditch the air con - the heater fan - and the radio (did the first 2 involuntarily when i crashed mione) and it shouldn't weigh much more than a b body - maybe?

I know what you're saying about the vinyl roof. The swage line that curves round the side windows and up the c-pillar is much more accentuated without the vinyl so yes, it possibly would look better without it but here's the thing. The car's all original paint and I don't want to/can't afford to paint it properly. With the degree of fade on the existing paint getting a match on the roof would be impossible so the vinyl's staying, plus I'd like to keep the car cosmetically as stock as possible.
It's interesting that you've gone for some suspension upgrades. I'm kind of in the mindset that I don't care that it doesn't handle. We'll see when I start using it properly.
To be honest I can't really understand why there aren't more over here. They don't weigh that much more that B-bodies, they almost always have a 440 as stock, they're amazing looking and they're a fraction of the price of something like a Charger.

That is Still such a nice car. Had to go back to page 1 to remind me self. Love the whole faded bit, hope the rust isnt too bad.

Hurry up and get that yacht on the tarmac Ed you slag. She looks great. Normally I'd say keep the original steering wheel but I have a 10" chrome chain link wheel that would look mighty porno on this.....

Great car there,so far nobody has said anything about the colour,green and green and white top.I have 71 Challenger that is same colour combo and when first hearing that it was all green,like everywhere,was not sure,now car is re-sprayed ,white vinyl roof and all new interior looks sharp and classy.
Had a dusting of gold added (only noticeable when the sun hits it) which has made the green lushious .
Don't know if this is true but cars with white vinyl tops were called 'Top Hats'!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!,am sure someone will verify.

Getting there! New vinyl roof fitted, pics in a second, now awaiting a new headliner. God, why does all this crap take so long...

Cheers Guy, I've not seen many green Mopars of this era about, not a Challenger anyway – look forward to see it. Actually, my vinyl 'top' is cream, not white (that's just me over-exposing the image), it's a colour called Champagne, new for '69 according to the literature and not produced for long as, unlike white, black or green, it's not available off the shelf, making it a pain to replace but I think I've got a near enough match.

Here's the new vinyl roof going on.
This was a job that I really, really, really didn't want to do myself. I didn't want the roof looking like a wrinkled bedsheet so I farmed the job out to Covertec Solutions in Leicester (covertecsolutions.co.uk) who did a fantastic job. They matched the material then made the new roof from scratch and fitted it. Hugely impressed. Here's it going on and finished...
