Big, bad 69 Chrysler 300 TNT

Post by Anonymous »

Hello all,
Been looking at the board for a while but only just joined as I've just collected my first American car from the docks. To be honest it's been the realisation of a dream. I've always had a thing about Mopar muscle cars, particularly liking the the land-yacht C-bodies.

So, after six months of waiting and waiting – through hurricanes, customs difficulties and all the rest – I went down to Southampton on Monday and brought this back. I can't believe it was 6 months ago that I clicked Buy-it-Now fuelled by too many beers...

It's a 1969 Chrysler 300 2dr. It's got the 440 TNT engine, 3.23 gears and a few options – power seat, electric windows, discs, A/C and an eight-track.
The paint is all original and has a great patina. I'm just going to replace the vinyl top and the carpets. The previous owner replaced the brakes, engine bay hoses, tyres and fitted the dog dish caps.

Loved the Euro Nats lat year but it killed me not having the Chrysler. Can't wait for this year. Anyway, here are a couple of pics...

Coooool! 8-) More detailed pics, please. :thumbright:

Patina is a good word if it's used to describe "Patina" as opposed to "Rusty old sh :-$ :-# " which it gets misused for a lot nowadays!

Cheers for the welcome chaps.

I'm not in VWs (though my daily is an 82 Porsche 924 - does that count?), but I have a couple of mates who are – that's probably where the patina word comes from.
It is errr.. big, as you say. At nearly 19ft long UK garages are a problem.

A guy I know is involved with the American Super Stock series and is persuading me (successfully) to enter. Sounds like a laugh, but I don't think I've got a locker, and the thing weighs 2 tons, so my times will be equally laughable I guess.

Still, I don't think I've ever been so excited to own a car...

If you want a BIG car the C-body is the one to get alright.

My fave is the 1970 Sport Fury. But that one you have is OK I guess. ;)

Treat the rear lights like they're the crown jewels. 70 sport fury lense's are running at £ 100 each for good used, yours are rarer.

Steveo, yep you're right it's a dealer stamp but not Mopar. From memory it says,

Pollards

Buick, Chevrolet, Cadillac

Story of the car is that it was owned by an old couple for years and when they died it went to some female relative who then bonded the car to get someone out of jail. Then it sat in their yard for 9 years until it was rescued by the bloke I bought it off.
It came from Abilene, Texas. Somewhere west of Dallas, so pretty dry, but those years in the bail bond yard have fried the roof and paint. Interior is pretty good considering, though the carpet is shagged.

I'll get some more pics up asap but it's stored away from where I live at the moment and I didn't get much time on Monday when I picked it up to take many photos. I haven't even really driven it yet – just around the docks, but the 375bhp 440 feels full of beans :D

Your scaring me about those tail lights :pale:

What do you guys do about the tail lights? I don't really want to add other lights, and I might be able to get an MoT as it is but I don't fancy some moron rear-ending me because they don't understand the indicators.
