Sounds like they are mucking you about.

I know a few people that have responded to job adverts, got an interview, waited for the call, and when they have phoned to ask what was going on they have been told that the boss or "head office" have told them they cannot fill that post so it is no longer available.

Seen it happen a few times. Didn't someone on here even pack their job in and then later was told the new job was no longer available?

Fingers crossed there is still a job to be had there.

Following on from what Dave said, we've recently been involved in recruiting a new PA for one of our clients and I have been writing to every applicant to let them know whether or not they have been shortlisted or have been unsuccessful etc. and the outgoing PA said to me "oh, don't bother doing that, if they are unsuccessful, no one writes writes back to let them know anymore, just ignore them".

Not only do I think that approach shows a singular lack of manners, it also extends the pain of what can be a stressful time for the applicants who are waiting to see whether or not they are in with a chance.

Needless to say I have emailed them all.

So Si, don't hold your breath mate, business ethics aren't what they used to be, I'm afraid...

and stress stress ain't the word for it anymore,i know plenty of people are in my situation, and i know i ain't got a mortgage but i still have lots of bills and plus been unemployed over a year now is starting to take the pith.

Our process goes like this.

We reply to every applicant to tell them if they have an interview or not.

After the interviews we decide if any of the applicants were suitable.

If we have not found the person we want we let all the applicants know they have been unsuccessful but we will be advertising the job again if they want another try. We also offer feedback so they can talk about why they were not successful which will give them a chance to finding employment in the future.

If we do find the guy we want we still offer feedback to the rest.

We don't HAVE to do any of this but I think any responsible employer (or anyone with a bit of humanity) should.

Thanks Si  maybe you can tell some of my mates to there face ;) if you got a job there the exercise would do you good :D

So get of your arse and do something about it! they are always taking on new staff mate, and now they want 30.000 extra to cover Xmas.

You will be amazed Si how many people think that it is an easy job before they come to do delivery's and then they can not hack it! most leave within a month, young lads and all that are supposed to be fit?

I should calm down as i no longer work there ;) :D
