I am Go glad you are the guinea pig on this job!
I used spray can etch primer in the end, partly because it’s what I had! The epoxy is what is recommended as you know, but decided to try the first part with what I had as it removes another necessary flatting session. As it’s worked, I’ll stick with it!

Have to say, the Argent paint is lovely to spray, need to give you a shout out for sourcing that! 8-) Cheers! :thumbright:

Just finishing prepping the main part for primer now, the prep for these parts has taken hours. (And I do mean lots of them!)

There are bits I could have learned from on the first bit, where I didn’t quite prep a couple of spots well enough, but I’m happy.

That’s a bit betterer! :thumbright:

Not perfect, but miles better than it was. Once I get its eyes on properly and the bumper on, I reckon it will make a pretty big difference.

probably better than when it was orginally installed... i'm sure a fella who paints 50 of these a shift got a bit sloppy from time to time

Thanks All. The photos probably make it look better than it is, it’s certainly not a pro job, but I won’t miss the coffee cup ring and brush marked thick paint.

It could probably do with another coat where I can see slight blemishes and thickness differences in the light, but it’ll do. I took a load of progress photos, but shan’t bore you with them. :D

I hand finished the script in the end after trialling various chrome fluid and pens etc. just sprayed it with satin black radiator paint and flatted it back with a block, looks ok.

I feel better now it’s starting to look more like a car again.

The car has had wrapped headers for as long as I can remember and I’ve never been enamoured with the filthy grey look, so I’d planned to re-wrap them with black tape as I figured they’d be in a bit of state under the wrap.

I know people debate this, in terms of does it damage them long term, so here you go, this is what happens to your lovely coated headers! :help:

To be fair, doesn’t look anything more than the coating to be knackered, although even the tape came away in the same sort of way a well cooked pulled pork does, so no integrity left there. I think a good wire brushing and a blast of vht before I wrap them is in order. The good news is, though, I’ve recommissioned the spray booth, so I can whack ‘em in there when the light surrounds have dried! :D

Personally I’d get them hot aluminium sprayed, never rusts, never comes off. There will be somewhere in the midlands that does it.

Never heard of that, Blue. :? :read2:

I’ll look into that. I’ve got some very good quality wrap, but kind of accept the fact that if I re wrap them, I’m consigning them to the future scrap heap.

Worse case scenario there is a place near Blue and myself that Aluminium sprays but that would extend the length of build......

Do you have a target date to get it back on the road..... no, not the Mustang Owners Club Santa Pod event......
