Yes Mo, it's bonded with a black silicone-type goo. I was advised to use a hairdryer to remove the glass which I had mixed success with (did get the glass off though). I think I also heard the idea of lying it in thinners which might be a better idea.
No doubt I have some pics which might help (would have helped me!)
Resto Rick does door mirror glass, that's where I got mine, it's true that getting it cut locally would probably be cheaper!

Actually took a quick look and did not find the mirrors...either I missed them (probably) or he stopped doing them, or just missed them off the website. That's def where I got mine though, and because Rick is one of the 'small guys' he'll use USPS so you can have them shipped over for probably less than $10 (the shipping, not the mirrors!)

Get someone else to take the glass out. If they break it, its their bad luck.
No Seriously, my brother uses some agent used for dissolving adhesives. If you dont get any joy I will get the details. You should be able to gently apply and gradually it will work its way behind glass. Mind you, I dont know if it will react badly with chrome.

Speaking of glass my driver's door glass is badly scratched due to worn out guide felts. It seems quite common on many yanks but is there a way of getting rid of the scratches out of the glass without replacing the thing ? I have heard of a product advertised in "Practical Classics" but used the mag for toilet paper since

Glad the thinners worked Mo, I wish I had heard about that before I did mine, still at least I got them out OK.
Yes Jeweller rouge is supposed to be the good stuff for getting out glass scratches, I got some myself which I shall be using shortly on the windows. IIRC you mix it with oil of some type to make a paste. Any scratches that you can catch you fingernail on are too deep to polish out though (or at least without creating a distortion)
