After untold problems & getting trailored back from Chelsea bridge, enough is enough.
Striped the mighty demon down only to find enough swarf in there to make another one Also, found so many high spots on the metering block & main body that would make the GRAND CANYON weep.
Gonna sort it all out & see if it runs any better, only thing is,NOW I NEED A GASKET SET ,as the grand canyon has it's foot print all over the gaskets
Not to worry, this is what it's all about.
Oh,I also forgot to mention the throttle plate body was ROCKING on the main body, this was due to a high spot around the idle ease,I'll give it high spots, when I throw it in the BIN.
Chris, who races the black 71 Riviera, had a new BG carb a few years back and at The MoPar Nats had it in bits just for that very reason. Swarf and poor machining.
This Demon was originally bought from me, not by Adam though
The original purchaser specifically stated they DIDN'T want the carb stripped, checked and baselined.
I charge £25 for this which on most takes around 30 minutes and whatever gaskets and seals are needed which are included in the cost, some can take a lot longer.
Great carb, spoiled by poor quality control which isn't a big secret
Surely you shouldn't have to rebuild the carb to make it of merchantable quality Neil?
All I can say is thank goodness for blokes like you who are prepared to do the work to maintain the carb's reputation, because all I've heard from the few users I've spoken to is that they work great!
Sad news that Adam's had all that grief though...
The pump don’t work coz the vandals took the handles.
Ivor it's only a small % that have problems like Adams but after saying that 1 in a million is one too many.
Just never buy one straight out of the box and if you do don't bolt it on until it's been in peices and everything checked
I haven't sold one out of the box for maybe 9 months now, I refuse as this is what happens which is unfortunate because all it serves to do is ruin the reputation of a damn good carb
