Anyone had any experience dismantling/rebuilding a dashboard clock?

Mine doesn't work, and I've just spotted a NOS one on flea-bay. Before I spend a (fairly hefty) amount of money on it, I wondered what the chances were of being able to repair the old one.

I don't fancy dismantling the whole dash just to have a butcher's gander at it, so I was just wondering if there is a common and easily repairable fault with these, or if it's likely to require hours of tweezer and magnifying glass tomfoolery to get it working for a week? Any ideas anyone?

This is what it looks like, if it helps...

I can't see the back but if it is the electro mechanical version that was common at the time then they are usually a reasonably easy fix.

That one is cheaper than the one I bought for mine,by about $40  If your clock has the self winding mech it will prob. only be the points dirty. Then lube the mech. If you're unlucky like me the little coil on the solenoid will have melted.

Alex gave me some helpful hints and I pulled mine apart, which was a little bit tricky, cleaned the points and lubed it as Latil just said and it runs a treat now.

I've got the Tick Tock working but not the Tach...which is a bit of a drag, but hey, I can drive it!

Thanks guys, if that's the case maybe I'll get amongst mine first berfore I part with my hard earned beer tokens.

To set the time you have to pull the knob on the end of the cable and turn it. When I let the knob go, the clock works for about 5 seconds then stops again, so I imagine it could be some dirty contacts or something.

I'll have a go when I get time, I'll let you know how it goes!
